Learn to Sew Your First Garment: Dominique Skirt
DATE, TIME AND LOCATION
Saturday 10th March 2018, 10:30am - 5:30pm, 4 Broadway Market Mews, London, E8 4TS.
WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?
This class is suitable for those at the start of their sewing journey who would like to learn how to sew garments. You might have never sewn a garment before or you might just like a little refresher and gentle hand-holding. You should be able to thread a sewing machine and use its basic stitch functions to get the most out of this class. If you don't feel confident using a machine yet we recommend coming along to our Learn To Sew class first.
We'll be taking you through how to use a sewing pattern step by step, from measuring and cutting to stitching up. We'll be using the Tilly and the Buttons Dominique skirt pattern which is a fantastic first garment and has straight seams and an elasticated waistband - no need for fiddly zips just yet! You'll also learn how to make pockets and how to insert elastic. You'll come away with a fantastic new skirt that you'll be dying to wear and show off!
You will need to bring 2-3 metres of fabric to the class depending on how long you'd like your skirt to be. After booking we will send an email with more information on picking fabrics and will be able to recommend some if you're worried about choosing. We have Janome machines available to use or you can bring your own machine if you'd particularly like to learn on a specific model. There will be drinks and sweet treats to keep you going throughout the class and we will have an hour's lunch break where you'll be free to go off an explore Broadway Market which has amazing food on a Saturday!
The workshop will take place in our canal-side studio by London Fields in Hackney, London. It's about 10 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station or 5 minutes from London Fields overground station. The full address is 4 Broadway Market Mews, E8 4TS.
