DATE, TIME AND LOCATION
Saturday 4th November 2017, 10am - 2pm workshop with a 'Meet and Mingle' after the class until 4pm
4 Broadway Market Mews, London, E8 4TS
Ahead of the launch of The Refashioners 2017, we are excited to announce The Refashioner's very first “in person” workshop. Hosted by series founder Portia Lawrie of Makery, and the wonderful Elisalex de Castro Peake of By Hand London. This 4 hour workshop is focussed around last year’s #jeanius theme of denim. So if you fancy getting some in person inspiration and guidance, then come along with your old, unwanted and unloved jeans and let Portia & Elisalex help you lavish some love on them and turn them into something fabulous again!
We’ll be using a variety of deconstruction and reconstruction techniques as well as embellishment and finishing techniques. The techniques you use will be led by you, and what you want from your refashion. So it’s totally curated to your skill level and vision for your garment.
Refashioned garments direct from last year’s series will be on display for your inspiration (and you get to have a peak inside too!)
MEET AND MINGLE
Can't attend the workshop itself? Then come and join us for a glass of prosecco afterwards. From 2-4pm (after the workshop itself) we will be hosting an informal meet and mingle to celebrate the launch of The Refashioners 2017. There will be garments from last years series on display and we hope several of the participants from current and past series in attendance. So come and join us for sewing & refashioning natter!
Portia Lawrie is a blogger and regular contributor to a number of sewing publications and the founder of The Refashioners. Established in 2011 and now a highly anticipated annual event in the sewing calendar.
Co-founder of indie sewing pattern label By Hand London, Elisalex de Castro Peake trained as a shoemaker and spent four years working in the fashion industry before turning her passion for sewing and self sufficient style into a career. Elisalex heads up the creative side of BHL, designing and sampling new patterns, creating online tutorials and blog content, as well as teaching sewing and handcrafts all over London and regularly contributes to various sewing publications.
You'll need to bring along a pair (or pairs) of jeans that need a bit of love. We'll supply everything else!
Brand new Pfaff Quilt Ambition 2.0 machines will be made available for your use courtesy of the lovely team at Pfaff UK. But of course, feel free to bring your own machine if you prefer.
WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?
This class is suitable for absolutely anyone who wants to get their refashion on! You don't need to have done any refashioning before. But basic sewing knowledge (how to use a machine. Some garment construction experience) is necessary. Otherwise the content will be entirely curated according to what you want out of your refashion.
The workshop will take place in our canal-side office by London Fields in Hackney, London. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station or 5 minutes from London Fields Overground station.
