During the class you will learn the basics of bag construction, including making pockets, adding zips and adjustable straps. With these skills you will be able to create your own dream bag!
WHAT WILL THIS COURSE COVER?
You will learn:
+ Basics for bag construction
+ How to create interior bag pockets
+ How to make and attach an adjustable strap
+ How to insert a zip into a bag
+ How to create a lined bag for a neat finish
This is a practical class and you will leave with your new bag!
WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?
This class is suitable for confident beginners, who know how to use a sewing machine, but might be trying bag making for the first time.
CLASS INCLUDES:
+ Use of our Pfaff Ambition 635 sewing machines in the classes. If you'd like to learn on your own machine then please do bring it along - please let us know the model in advance and bring your manual with you.
+ All tools and equipment
+ A copy of the Crosstown Crescent bag pattern + instructions
+ Drinks and sweet treats to keep you going throughout the class.
STUDENTS NEED TO BRING:
+ 0.5m of main fabric: this can be any woven fabric, a bottom weight fabric will give you a more structured bag, or you could choose a lighter weight fabric for a softer bag. Thick fabrics such as heavy denim or canvas aren’t recommended for the class, as they will require more time and patience for top stitching through all the layers!
+ 0.5m of lining fabric: a lightweight woven fabric, such as quilting cotton, is recommended
+ 2m of bias tape, this can either be store brought, or if you want it to match your fabric, we ask that you make this ahead of the class. This should be ¼” wide when double folded
+ One 15”/38cm zipper, a #5 size zipper is recommended. You can bring a longer zipper and trim it to size.
+ One 8”/20cm zipper, a size #3 or #5 is recommended.
+ 120cm of 1.5”/38mm wide webbing for the strap.
+ a 1.5”/38mm wide tri-glide slide adjuster. We recommend testing your adjuster or the webbing ahead of the class to make sure it grips the strap properly.
