Lander Pants Fitting Class - Learn to Fit Trousers

6 Broadway Market Mews, London, E8 4TS.

The workshop will take place in our shop just behind Broadway Market. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, 5 minutes from London Fields and Cambridge Heath overground stations. We're also connected by numerous bus routes!


In this 1 day class students will learn how to adjust and fit a trouser pattern. Using the True Bias Lander Pants pattern, students will learn skills that can be applied to all trouser patterns. You'll leave the class confident to diagnose and solve all trouser fit problems!


+ How to measure a body accurately
+ How to grade between sizes
+ How to lengthen/shorten the rise
+ How to lengthen/shorten the crotch curve 
+ How to do a round/flat crotch adjustment
+ How to do a full/flat seat adjustment
+ How to do a full/thin thigh adjustment
+ How to do a full/thin calf adjustment
+ How to do a full tummy adjustment
+ How to do a low seat adjustment
+ How to do a sway back adjustment
+ How to diagnose fit issues that can't be spotted on measurements alone
+ How to make pattern alterations to the paper pattern
+ How to make pattern alterations to a toile
Please note that this class will end up being structured according to the individual needs of the students; not everyone will have to make the same alterations, and some other fit issues not mentioned above may come up, and will be addressed. The aim of the class is to arm each student with the tools and know-how in order to make trousers to fit their own body, plus a broader understanding of pattern alteration in general from seeing other alterations being performed.

Pattern cutting tools (pattern master, notcher, pattern drill and tracing wheel, tape measure etc) Please feel free to bring your own tools if you already have some
+ Sewing machine and the usual dressmaking tools such as tape measures, fabric scissors, thread, pins etc
Toiling supplies (calico, pins, threads etc)
+ Drinks and snacks throughout the day


+ A notebook and pen to take notes
+ A camera / phone to take process pictures (optional, but helpful!)


This class is for experienced sewers that are familiar with using patterns, no prior knowledge of pattern cutting is needed.


Kathryn is an experienced pattern cutter currently working in the industry. After starting at Karen Millen her CV has grown to include London Fashion week brands such as Peter Pilotto and Emilia Wickstead as well as power house brand Topshop. She discovered a love of pattern cutting while studying fashion design at university and hasn't looked back since. After graduating she threw herself headlong into the industry and quickly rose up the ranks. After 7 years of hard grafting she is now keen to share what she has learnt with others and to see her love of pattern cutting spread!
