PROJECT
Have you dreamed about sewing a coat, but feel bewildered about all the new sewing skills and steps that are necessary when sewing one? Or, are you already a pro in coat-making, but want to try something a little different like our Gaia Coat? If yes, or if you would simply like to spend a fun weekend in a nice group of people just sewing away, this class is for you! During the class, we will be sewing the Gaia Coat. Gaia is a loose-fitting, lined coat with dropped shoulders and a very unique and fun cut! The relaxed fit makes it possible to fit this coat to a variety of body types. We will go through the sewing process step-by-step, so if you have any questions regarding the very basics of coat making, we will make sure to answer those. Also, if you already know how to make a coat but are not quite sure how to master the Gaia, this class will offer you lots of tips!

STUDENTS WILL LEARN
+ How to master sewing with coating fabrics, as well as slippery lining fabrics
+ How to sew a lining, and the basic process of lining a coat
+ An option for learning how to add an interlining
+ Tips for seam matching, dealing with seam allowances , pressing etc
+ Professional finishing techniques for coat making

CLASS INCLUDES
+ A paper or pdf copy of the Gaia pattern sent to your home address or e-mail

+ Invitation to an exclusive book launch event on the Saturday evening for Named's new book 'Breaking the Pattern'. You'll be able to buy a signed copy of the book the month before it is released!
Use of all tools including our Pfaff Quilt Ambition 2.0 sewing machines. If you'd prefer to bring your own machine that is absolutely fine but if so you will need to also bring a walking foot that fits your machine.

+ A notebook and pen, for possible notes

We guarantee that what ever your starting point, you will have a lot of fun, and learn heaps of practical skills and tips. It helps if you have some sewing experience.

TEACHER BIO
Named is a Helsinki-based sewing pattern label founded by sisters Saara and Laura Huhta. Saraa has a background in fashion design, pattern making and styling, and Laura is a shoe designer by training, but has also worked in the handbag industry. Together this versatile duo has a great passion for clothing and sewing, and they have been sewing as a hobby since they were just little kids. The sisters continue to be most excited about home sewing and making interesting patterns specifically for fellow home seamstresses. Having sewn as a hobby for a significant amount of years, Saara and Laura know what kind of sewing patterns inspire today’s modern seamstresses. Therefore, they aim to create patterns that are not only beautiful and flattering to the person wearing them, but also offer new and interesting challenges with various cuts and unique details! However, the most important thing in designing is inspiring people and, of course, promoting sewing as a hobby, and making it accessible and inviting for as many people as possible.
