The workshop will take place in our shop in between Broadway Market and Mare Street. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, 5 minutes from London Fields and Cambridge Heath Overground stations.
This weekend workshop will take you through the making of a timeless coat from beginning to end. You'll be working on the By Hand London Rumana coat pattern with the designer Elisalex herself. By the end of the class you will have a classic handmade coat to see you through the winter for years to come!
STUDENTS WILL LEARN:
+ How to sew with various coating fabrics such as wool, interfacing and linings.
+ Basic tailoring and finishing techniques.
+ How to construct a welt pocket.
+ How to construct a traditional collar.
+ How to set in sleeves.
+ How to create a fully bagged out lining.
+ The Rumana pattern
+ Sewing machine and the usual dressmaking tools such as tape measures, fabric scissors, thread, pins etc
+ Drinks and snacks throughout the weekend
STUDENTS WILL NEED TO BRING:
+ In order to make the most of your time, you will need to come to class with your patterns pieces - except for the interfacing - cut and ready to go. Keep the paper pattern pieces pinned to the fabric in order to avoid confusion when it comes to assembling your coat! Full preparation details will be sent to attendees before the workshop.

for fabric recommendations and metreage. If fabrics are not pre-washed (and if you're making your coat from wool we do not recommend that you do pre-wash) please be aware that your finished coat will be dry clean only

WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?
This class is suitable for intermediate sewers who are comfortable on a sewing machine and working from a pattern.
