DATE, TIME AND LOCATION
Saturday 27th May, 11 am - 2pm, London Fields, London.
In this three hour workshop we'll be learning the foundations of hand embroidery and applying our new skills to embellish and/or mend a garment from your very own wardrobe! We'll be covering all the basic stitches you'll need to get you going, as well as providing you with all the materials you'll need (and some fuel in the form of tea and snacks of course!).
Embroidery has forever been used to mend and embellish old or torn garments in order to breathe new life and put off having to discard loved items prematurely. It's that functional beauty of visible mending that gives me such a deep sense of satisfaction, and I firmly believe that once you've used embroidery to mend one favourite pair of ripped jeans, no item in your wardrobe will be safe...!
Co-founder of indie sewing pattern label By Hand London, Elisalex de Castro Peake trained as a shoemaker and spent four years working in the fashion industry before turning her passion for sewing and self sufficient style into a career. Elisalex heads up the creative side of BHL, designing and sampling new patterns, creating online tutorials and blog content, as well as teaching sewing and handcrafts all over London and regularly contributes to various sewing publications.
You'll need to bring along an item of clothing that needs a bit of love, through some embellishment or a mend. We'll supply everything else!
