Winter Wardrobe Basics Part 1: Learn to Sew a Turtleneck

The workshop will take place in our shop in between Broadway Market and Mare Street. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, 5 minutes from London Fields and Cambridge Heath overground stations. 

PROJECT:

Get your A/W wardrobe sorted with our Winter Wardrobe Basics weekend! In this first part of the weekend you'll learn to sew the perfect turtleneck, ideal for wearing with skirts and jeans and cosy layering. We'll be using the Paola Turtleneck by Named Clothing. It has a semi-fitted shape, long sleeves and the perfect length of turtleneck. You'll sew two turtlenecks over the course of the day and practise different techniques for sewing with stretch fabrics. Learn to sew a sweatshirt in part 2 of the weekend here or book both for a special bundle deal here.

STUDENTS WILL LEARN:

+ Tips and tricks for sewing with stretch fabrics, including cutting, marking and sewing
+ How to sew stretch fabrics using a regular sewing machine
+ How to sew stretch fabrics using an overlocker
+ How to create a professional finish on seams using a twin needle

CLASS INCLUDES: 

+ Paola Turtleneck Tee pattern by Named Clothing
 Use of all tools including our Pfaff Quilt Ambition 2.0 sewing machines and Overlockers. If you'd prefer to bring your own machine then that is absolutely fine.
+ Drinks and snacks throughout the weekend

STUDENTS WILL NEED TO BRING:

+ Maximum of 2.1m of jersey fabric with approximately 50% stretch for each turtleneck (4.2m total), exact fabric requirements for each size can be found here
+ Cotton thread

WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?

This class is suitable for beginners. You must have experience with using a sewing machine and a pattern. You do not have to have experience with sewing with stretch fabrics - this is a great project to jump right in with!
 

TEACHER BIO

Hannah and Rosie have run The New Craft House for 5 years and have taught hundreds of students from their East London studio. Passionate about slow fashion and creating a unique handmade wardrobe, they're keen to share these skills with their students in a welcoming and friendly environment. Hannah's dog Twigs might be in the office, please let us know if you'd rather she wasn't and we will find a dog sitter!
