PROJECT
If you'd like to master cutting and sewing fabrics on the bias then this class is for you! Over the day you'll learn how to accurately cut on the bias, how to finish them beautifully with french seams and create a perfect rolled hem finish. Using the Soften Studio Clo Bias Skirt pattern, you'll be sewing a wardrobe staple; a bias cut skirt. Perfect for wearing with a cami or t-shirt in summer and tights and boots in winter. Please note, the pattern we will be using has a hip measurement range of 80cm-134cm, if you fall outside of this range please let us know beforehand and we'll adjust the pattern for you.
WHAT WILL THIS COURSE COVER?
If you've got the hang of sewing with cottons, have used a paper pattern before and want to learn more about sewing on the bias, this class is for you! Suitable for beginner/intermediate sewists, the class will cover:
+ How to measure your body and pick a size
+ How to cut pattern pieces on the bias
+ How to sew accurately on the bias to minimise distortion
+ How to sew french seams
+ How to sew a perfect rolled hem
The skills learnt in this one day class will prepare you to tackle other sewing patterns at home.
WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?
This class is suitable for beginner/intermediate sewists. Anyone who feels confident using a sewing machine and has used a paper pattern before. If you're a more experienced sewist it'll still be a fun day of sewing a beautiful skirt and you're welcome to join!
CLASS INCLUDES:
+ Use of our PFAFF Ambition 635 sewing machines in the classes. If you'd like to learn on your own machine then please do bring it along - please let us know the model in advance and bring your manual with you.
+ All tools and equipment
+ Elastic for the waistband
+ Drinks and sweet treats to keep you going throughout the class.
STUDENTS NEED TO BRING:
+ Fabric (2-2.5m depending on size) and matching thread for your skirt. This skirt can be sewn in a variety of woven fabrics depending on the look you want - a crepe de chine will produce a drapier, slinkier skirt, or a linen will have a more relaxed drape. We can advise you on what fabrics will work best and you'll be sent through a full list of requirements before the course starts. We have thread available to buy in the studio if you need some on the day.
WHERE?
The workshop will take place in our studio around the corner from Broadway Market. We have a dedicated workshop room at the back where you can sew in peace and still see the hustle and bustle of the shop. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, 5 minutes from London Fields and Cambridge Heath Overground stations. The studio is at ground floor level with no steps. It is fully accessible and has a fully accessible toilet.
