CLASS OVERVIEW
In this workshop patchwork pro Lauren @workingcloth will guide you to sew a velvet stocking with a patchwork star, ready to hang for Christmas! You will be guided through the cutting and patchwork process (with all fabrics included) and sew a small patchwork star which will then be sewn into your Christmas stocking. You will leave with a finished, lined velvet stocking and the skills to tackle your next patchwork project at home!WHAT WILL THIS COURSE COVER?
+ How to cut and prepare fabric for patchwork
+ How to sew a stocking with hanger
+ How to construct a patchwork star while obtaining a neat finish
+ How to line your stocking
This is a practical class and you will leave with a finished velvet stocking!
WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?
This class is suitable for confident beginners and intermediate sewists. You need to know how to use a sewing machine.
CLASS INCLUDES:
+ Use of our PFAFF Ambition 635 sewing machines in the classes. If you'd like to learn on your own machine then please do bring it along - please let us know the model in advance and bring your manual with you.
+ All tools and equipment
+ Cotton velvet fabric. We will have a variety of cotton velvet colours available to choose from, but if you’d like to use something specific please do bring it along.
+ Black cotton lining
+ A stocking pattern
+ Drinks and sweet treats to keep you going throughout the class

TEACHER BIO
Lauren MacDonald is a multidisciplinary designer, writer, and the founder of textiles studio, Working Cloth. Her approach and aesthetic have been tempered through academic studies in material culture and textile science, vocational experience in the fashion industry, and an ongoing obsession with materiality, form, and function. Her practice is focused on traditional textile handcrafts and spans interaction design, installation, sculpture and stitched form. Her first book In Pursuit of Color: From fungi to fossil fuels: uncovering the origins of the world's most famous dyes was released in February 2023 and her second book Piece by Piece: 20 Modern Patchwork and Quilting Projects to Make From Preloved Fabrics was published in May 2025.
WHERE?
The workshop will take place in our studio around the corner from Broadway Market. We have a dedicated workshop room at the back where you can sew in peace and still see the hustle and bustle of the shop. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, 5 minutes from London Fields and Cambridge Heath Overground stations. The studio is at ground floor level with no steps. It is fully accessible and has a fully accessible toilet.
