Ever see a great pattern hack on Instagram and wonder how to do this yourself? In this one day class, you will learn how to hack a sewing pattern and make it your own! Using the Everyday Dress pattern as a base, we will go through a variety of hacks including: changing the neckline, altering the armhole to remove sleeves, creating new fastenings and adding a cut out. In the class, we’ll go through these hacks using half scale patterns, and then you will have time to use these techniques to design and draft your dream Everyday Dress!

+ The principles for hacking patterns

+ How to change the neckline on a pattern

+ How to hack armholes

+ How to add a button placket to a pattern

+ How to add a cut out to a pattern

+ How to adapt pattern instructions to factor in your hacks

+ How to use a half scale block to test pattern cutting techniques

This is a practical class and you will create a selection of sample patterns during the session using half scale blocks.

This class is suitable for intermediate sewists. You should be confident using a sewing machine and making garments. You don't need to have any previous pattern cutting experience.

+ Use of our PFAFF Ambition 635 sewing machines in the classes. If you'd like to learn on your own machine then please do bring it along - please let us know the model in advance and bring your manual with you.
+ All tools and equipment
+ Instructions to take home with you
+ Hands on help to create your pattern pieces
+ Drinks and sweet treats to keep you going throughout the class.

Yourselves! During the class we will create versions of these patterns with half scale blocks and pattern paper. We will provide the paper, rulers, and everything else you need (including tea and biscuits!). We’ll also have samples of all the techniques so you can see what they will look like when they are made up. You might want to bring a notepad to take notes.

The workshop will take place in our studio around the corner from Broadway Market. We have a dedicated workshop room at the back where you can sew in peace and still see the hustle and bustle of the shop. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, 5 minutes from London Fields and Cambridge Heath Overground stations. The studio is at ground floor level with no steps. It is fully accessible and has a fully accessible toilet.

This class will be taught by Kate, aka Project Patterns. An extremely experience pattern cutter, Kate has created patterns for countless high-end and high street brands and now also teaches pattern cutting through her online and in-person workshops.
