Learn to Sew Swimwear

The workshop will take place in our shop in between Broadway Market and Mare Street. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, 5 minutes from London Fields and Cambridge Heath overground stations. 

PROJECT:

The perfect sewing class to get you ready for Summer, our Learn to Sew Swimwear class will take you through the construction of the 8101 halter-neck bikini or costume from Maison Fleur. You'll learn all the basic techniques for sewing with stretch fabrics and can apply what you've learnt to all swimwear patterns. 

STUDENTS WILL LEARN:

+ Cutting, marking and sewing stretch fabrics
+ Finishing seams and edges
+ Applying elastic
+ Basic fit adjustments
*lots of the techniques learnt in this class can be applied to other stretch fabric projects, such as activewear and lingerie!*

CLASS INCLUDES: 

+ Elastic. If you'd like a specific colour please bring it with you. 
+ Use of all tools including our Pfaff Quilt Ambition 2.0 sewing machines. If you'd prefer to bring your own machine then that is absolutely fine! 

STUDENTS WILL NEED TO BRING:

+ 1m of swimwear fabric: Spandex with four-way stretch. Needs to have 50% stretch on crosswise grain and good recovery, usually contains a minimum 10% Spandex/lycra. 
+ 0.5m swimsuit lining
+ Polyester thread

WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?

This class is suitable for anyone with some experience of using a sewing pattern. You do not need experience sewing stretch fabrics.

TEACHER BIO

Hannah and Rosie have run The New Craft House for 5 years and have taught hundreds of students from their East London studio. Passionate about slow fashion and creating a unique handmade wardrobe, they're keen to share these skills with their students in a welcoming and friendly environment. Hannah's dog Twigs might be in the office, please let us know if you'd rather she wasn't and we will find a dog sitter!
