PROJECT

If you're looking for the perfect Autumn trench-style coat, ideal for transitional dressing, then this is the workshop for you! Over this weekend workshop you will sew up the Merchant and Mills September Coat, perfect for layering up in Winter or throwing on over a t-shirt in Spring. This workshop includes all of the materials required for this project so you don't need to source anything yourself. We will send you the pattern and fabric, a beautiful deadstock classic, camel cotton twill from a very high-end London-based designer. Work through this involved project with the support of our skilled teacher Juliette and leave with a finished coat!

Please note, the September Coat has a hip measurement range of 86cm-145cm, if you fall outside of this range please let us know beforehand and we'll adjust the pattern for you.

WHAT WILL THIS COURSE COVER?

If you want to sew up the perfect throw-it-on coat this class is for you! Suitable for intermediate sewists, the class will cover:

+ How to sew and attach a collar
+ How to fully line a coat
+ How to sew a vent
+ How to sew neat patch and inseam pockets
+ How to sew neat buttonholes on outerwear

WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?

This class is suitable for intermediate sewists. You must feel confident using a sewing machine and have used a paper pattern before. If you're a more experienced sewist it'll still be a great weekend class and you will leave with a finished coat.

If you have not used a sewing pattern before you will need to attend our Learn to Sew Clothes workshop first.

CLASS INCLUDES:

+ Use of our PFAFF Ambition 635 sewing machines in the classes. If you'd like to learn on your own machine then please do bring it along - please let us know the model in advance and bring your manual with you.
+ A printed copy of the September Coat by Merchant & Mills, plus the full PDF pattern to download at home
+ 3.5m of deadstock, mid-weight camel cotton twill
+ 3.5m of lining
+ 1.3m of interfacing
+ Matching thread
+ 5x 2cm buttons
+ All tools and equipment
+ Drinks and sweet treats to keep you going throughout the class.

If you would rather use your own fabric you are very welcome to!

STUDENTS NEED TO BRING:

+ Your cut pattern pieces
+ Your cut outer fabric
+ Your cut lining fabric
+ Your cut interfacing

There is some pre-class prep required before this workshop! Students will be sent their printed pattern and fabric ahead of the workshop so they can cut out their pattern pieces and fabric. You will receive info on exactly what you need to prepare and we will be available to help choose a size if you need advice!

WHERE?

The workshop will take place in our studio around the corner from Broadway Market. We have a dedicated workshop room at the back where you can sew in peace and still see the hustle and bustle of the shop. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, 5 minutes from London Fields and Cambridge Heath Overground stations. The studio is at ground floor level with no steps. It is fully accessible and has a fully accessible toilet.
