The workshop will take place in our workshop space just around the corner from Broadway Market. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, 10 minutes from London Fields and Cambridge Heath Overground stations.
PROJECT
In this one day class you'll be using Syd Graham's Connie Tree Skirt pattern to sew up a festive tree skirt ready for Christmas decorating! Easily customisable with your fabric and trim choice, this pattern is the perfect way to hide your tree stand and add some handmade flair under your tree.
Please note: the Connie Tree Skirt pattern comes in 4 sizes. In this workshop we will be making the Mini size which has a diameter of 36"/92cm - the perfect size for under a 4-6 foot tree. We will be sewing the bow closure option.
WHAT WILL THIS COURSE COVER?
If you've got the hang of using a sewing machine, this class is for you! Suitable for a confident beginner, the class will cover:
+ How to cut out using a paper pattern
+ How to layer your pieces to create a 'quilt' sandwich with batting
+ How to machine quilt
+ How to bind raw edges
This is a practical class and you will leave with your finished tree skirt!
WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?
This class is suitable for confident beginner sewists. You do not have to have used a paper pattern before, but you must be confident using a sewing machine. If you're a more experienced sewist it'll still be a fun day of sewing a beautiful tree skirt.
CLASS INCLUDES:
+ Use of our PFAFF Ambition 635 sewing machines in the classes. If you'd like to learn on your own machine then please do bring it along - please let us know the model in advance and bring your manual with you.
+ All tools and equipment
+ Batting
+ Drinks and sweet treats to keep you going throughout the class.
STUDENTS NEED TO BRING:
+ 1m fabric for the topside
+ 1m of fabric for the underside - the tree skirt is reversible so pick 2 fabrics you can alternate between!
+ Matching thread. We have thread available to buy in the studio if you need some on the day.
Suitable fabrics:
linen,
cotton and
Liberty lawn would make a really special tree skirt, but any medium weight fabric can be used.
WHERE?
The workshop will take place in our studio around the corner from Broadway Market. We have a dedicated workshop room at the back where you can sew in peace and still see the hustle and bustle of the shop. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, 5 minutes from London Fields and Cambridge Heath Overground stations. The studio is at ground floor level with no steps. It is fully accessible and has a fully accessible toilet.
