The workshop will take place in our studio around the corner from Broadway Market. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, 5 minutes from London Fields and Cambridge Heath Overground stations. It's a dedicated workshop space at the back of our fabric shop, nice and peaceful for sewing but you can still feel a part of the buzz of the shop. The space is fully accessible, at ground level with no steps. We also have a large accessible toilet.

CLASS OVERVIEW

Sewing with jersey can feel intimidating, but we think it’s one of the best fabrics to get to grips with for making beautiful basics. In this one day class you will get to grips with the basics needed to cut and sew jersey on your regular sewing machine. We will cover everything you need to know about jersey, and the features of jersey patterns such as neckbands and ribbing. The class will also cover how you can get the perfect jersey finish on your home machine (no overlockers required!) including the types of needles you’ll need, stitch options and pressing jersey. You’ll leave with a new t-shirt and all the skills to tackle stretch projects at home!

WHAT WILL THE CLASS COVER

+ How to cut jersey

+ What different types of jersey are and how to select the right stretch fabric for your project

+ How to finish jersey seams

+ How to select the right stitch for your project, including zig-zag, lightning bolt seams and twin needles

+ How to set up your machine with the right needles for jersey fabrics

+ How to sew neat neckbands

+ How to construct a t-shirt

This is a practical class and you will leave with a perfect t-shirt!

CLASS INCLUDES:

+ Use of all tools including our PFAFF Ambition 365 sewing machines. If you'd like to learn on your own machine then please do bring it along - please let us know the model in advance and bring your manual with you.

+ All tools and equipment

+ A copy of the XXX pattern

+ Drinks and sweet treats to keep you going throughout the class.

STUDENTS WILL NEED TO BRING:

+ 1-2m of jersey fabric. Your jersey will need to be a t-shirt weight with at least 26% stretch and no more than 50%. The amount needed will depend on size being made. We will email fabric requirements closer to the date of the class. If you need help making sure you have the right fabric, please get in touch and we can help advise!

WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?

This class is suitable for confident beginners. You need to know how to use a sewing machine, but might be sewing with jersey for the first time!
